Laura Clancy has served the last 5 years as the Chairman of the Board for NMSI. She was a missionary with NMSI in Russia from 1996-1999. She was appointed by the Board of Directors as the Executive Leader of NMSI on November 1, 2008. We welcome Laura and are excited to have her as part of our team.
The following is a letter from the new Chairman of the Board, Jeff Metzger.
Dear Friend of NMSI,
The NMSI board is sorry to announce that our president and CEO, Phil Hudson, is currently suspended from all executive function due to violation of the policies of the Board. Specifically, there was a period of time three years ago where Phil fell into temptation and violated his marriage vows. Even when Phil repented and ended the sinful behavior betraying his marriage he failed to practice openness, honesty, and vulnerability and continued to hide his sin. As a consequence of this sin he became depressed and further misled those who cared about him by hiding the true cause of his depression.
Ten months ago Phil finally began to confess his sin. That circle of confession and repentance grew until it recently came to include the Board and the entire mission. Upon hearing Phil’s confession the Board acted to protect the mission and to protect Phil and his marriage. The other party involved, who was not an NMSI missionary, has also repented. The Board, knowing the full details, is determined to protect the other party by keeping their identity from public distribution.
What, if any, executive function Phil will continue to have with NMSI is still to be determined. Phil’s primary assignment at this time is to strengthen his marriage and to work to identify and address the areas of vulnerability in his life that contributed to his fall into sin.
In the meantime, to serve and protect the mission and affiliates the Board delegated executive authority and function to Laura Clancy. She will be working closely with the outstanding leaders who form the Executive Committee to give ongoing leadership to NMSI. Together with all the NMSI community we will work diligently to insure that our purpose of joining with God to restore His dominion on earth continues and advances dynamically.
The Board of NMSI continues to closely monitor our situation. Our goal is to honor God, to protect NMSI, and to bless people. In a redemptive situation such as this we covet and invite your prayers for healing and protection. Nothing about this situation is hidden. The sin happened. It is over.
