Hait Earthquake Update—February 12, 2010
Thursday, February 18, 2010 - rflory
It’s been a month since the news hit that there had been a
magnitude 7.0 earthquake that hit Haiti. Our first concern was for the five NMSI families that live and minister in Haiti. Two of those families have been
directly affected by the earthquake and have had to relocate their families
outside of the city of Port-au-Prince, where the epicenter of the earthquake
was. Jean-Martin Etienne explained
the miracle of how he and his family were spared, “Our house was the only one
still standing on the entire block where the our family lived.” The other three
families have not escaped the effects of this tremendous natural disaster, as
they have been ministering to refugees that have fled the city looking for food
and shelter in villages. Mioche Rock of Pignon, Nego Pierre-Louis of Jacmel, and Sainsurin
Jean-Baptiste of Gonaives, along with dozens of volunteers from their churches,
have provided resources and care for hundreds of people. This was only able to
happen because of the generous donations we have received.
On February 20, Aaron Arnold, NMSI’s
regional director for the Americas, will visit Haiti to meet with all of our
Haitian affiliates to create a longer term restoration plan that will include
development, reconstruction and job creation. Please continue to pray for the
massive amount of work that needs to be done, and that through the ministry
that will happen, the name of Jesus Christ will be lifted high.
