Merry Christmas from NMSI

Thursday, December 11, 2008 - rflory

Dear Friends,

Christ was born in a barn.  We would not have planned it like this. God chose the lowest, messiest of places to host one of the grandest events in human history.  Likewise, we would not have planned our past year at NMSI, yet we see God moving powerfully through our own stable mess.

   Kenya

January brought election riots, massive tribal killing, and widespread displacement to Kenya, traditionally, one of the most stable African nations.  Then a cyclone hit Myanmar bringing devastation to large areas of the county.  And although we all thought the situation in Zimbabwe could not get any worse, it did. Unfathomable inflation has completely devalued their currency and left store shelves empty.

   Zimbabwe

Honestly, most of us cannot begin to imagine the reality of life in Kenya, Myanmar or Zimbabwe.  We have missionaries, however, serving in each of these countries who do face tragic circumstances.  Yet our people have risked their own well-being to demonstrate Christ’s love to those they serve.  Our missionaries crossed tribal lines to bring blankets and reconciliation.  They have buried bodies, planted rice seeds, and offered hope for the future.  They have brought food to the hungry, courageously proclaiming Christ’s desire for mankind.

   Myanmar

With 180 missionaries in 30 countries, we find ourselves in messy situations often.  Why do we do it?  Christ has called us.  He left the glory of heaven to come down to our messy world so that we could one day join him again in heaven.  Following Christ and leaning on his grace, our people carry that good news to messy places.

We ask you to consider a year-end gift to NMSI to help us continue to bring the light of Christ to dark, messy stables around the world.  Your involvement with us makes a difference.  Thank you for partnering with us as we serve the Lord.

Merry Christmas,

The Executive Leadership of NMSI
