How Angela got started in missions
Angela grew up in Charleston, SC, and was always fascinated with missionary stories. She started working in missions after she graduated from Liberty University in 2001. Her training and mission projects have taken her to Muslim communities in New Jersey, the Russian countryside, the Yucatan peninsula, the Kenyan bush, the streets of Northern Italy and several Buddhist cities in Asia.
In July 2001, Angela worked with Muslims in New Jersey and first experienced the rich culture yet empty religion of Islam. God first opened her eyes to something bigger then her own life, worldview and plans to be a journalist. She began a journey to help declair God’s glory to every tribe and tongue so that they could receive the abundant life Christ talks about in John 10:10.
After her training in Islam, Angela interned in Florida at ECHO—a non-profit organization dedicated to providing agricultural support and training to missionaries and development workers overseas. During that year, Angela met the NMSI family, headquartered nearby. Then, God supplied the money for her to participate on short-term projects to Russia and Kenya with NMSI, leading her to join with them in their work around the world in November 2003.
Angela's work with NMSI
Angela is based at NMSI’s Center for Global Outreach (CGO) in Fort Myers, FL, and she normally heads overseas at least once each year. NMSI’s home office is critical to assisting the missionaries overseas. She is passionate about introducing and helping train others to be involved in God’s heartbeat for the nations. This plays out in a variety of ways.
Angela’s primary role is as the Publications Director and the Editor for the NMSI Newslink. She creates visual communication both for the mission as a whole and for individual missionaries on the field by producing print media such as newsletters and brochures for NMSI missionaries. Newslink is a mini-magazine that highlights what God is doing around the world through NMSI.
Secondly, by working at NMSI’s CGO, Angela is able to help orient and mentor new members headed overseas as they come for NMSI’s 8-week training program (COAT) three times a year. Through the years, she has been involved with teaching and mobilization in the local Christian community. Angela served two years as the coordinator for the Worldwide Perspectives courses in Southwest Florida. This class helped her start a monthly missions prayer breakfast for the city. She also teaches about cross-cultural ministry in various church settings as needed.
