Shane & Helen Kingery
Shane was born and raised in Florida, and Helen was born and raised in the Washington D.C. area. God called each of them to missions at about the age of 18 through short-term projects. Between the two of them, Shane and Helen have served in Iceland, Jamaica, Haiti, Dominican Republic, Mexico, the Philippines, Gabon, Ethiopia and Kenya. As a result of seeing some of the needs in other countries, Shane made the decision to become a nurse and has gained experience working in the Progressive Care Unit as an LPN and in the Emergency Room as an RN. Similarly, Helen studied Cognitive Science at Wellesley College and received her Masters in Public Health from Johns Hopkins University in order to meet some of the needs that she has seen in missions. Helen's work experience has been in the U.S. non-profit realm and in rural Kenyan clinics and villages.
Shane first worked with NMSI as an intern in Jamaica in 2001, and Helen first met NMSI as a long-term missionary in Kenya in 2006. Shane and Helen finally met each other in Kenya in June of 2007, and after dating long-distance for nearly their entire relationship, they were married in June of 2009. Shane and Helen anticipate that God will call them overseas again, and until then, they are supporting overseas ministries through serving at the Center for Global Outreach in Florida. Shane is working in the Media Division, and Helen is working in Global Health Development.
